Pink Tongue Skinks http://pinktongueskinks.com Pink Tongue Skink Care and Breeding Info Wed, 18 Jun 2008 19:31:57 +0000 en In Praise of Warm Weather http://pinktongueskinks.com/7/praise-warm-weather/ http://pinktongueskinks.com/7/praise-warm-weather/#comments Wed, 18 Jun 2008 19:31:57 +0000 Steve http://pinktongueskinks.com/?p=7 With summer only a week away, the ambient air temperature has had a significant impact on the activity of my pink tongue skinks. I’ve developed a routine, where I come home from work around 2pm (I go to work at 4am, just so no one thinks I have some incredible job that lets me work short hours) and I mist the tank… and then watch as my skinks come to life! They are so active now… it’s incredibly enjoyable to watch. They bask in plain site all day long, but the moment I spray the tank they start hunting for food. I have been offering food every day now, and they certainly seem to appreciate it, they are eating everything in site! I’m still feeding high quality protein focused nutrition, but intend to add some Crested Gecko Diet to give them a greater variety. I may prepare the Crested Gecko Diet with beef broth, to see if that interests the Pink Tongue Skinks.

Feeding Dog and Cat Food to Pink Tongue Skinks http://pinktongueskinks.com/6/feeding-dog-cat-food-pink-tongue/ http://pinktongueskinks.com/6/feeding-dog-cat-food-pink-tongue/#comments Mon, 19 May 2008 23:01:13 +0000 Steve http://pinktongueskinks.com/?p=6 For some time, it has been common advice to feed the cheapest commercial dog/cat food to Pink Tongue Skinks.   Now I personally wouldn’t even feed my Dog or Cat the foods that have come so highly recommended for Reptile food (i.e. Whiskas, Fancy Feast, etc) so why would I consider them for Pink Tongue Skinks?!

However, I do have a commercial food that I highly recommend-  Wellness Core Dog and Cat Food (preferably the reduced fat Dog food).  This is a protein based dry food with a fairly decent ratio of ingredients.  What I do is moisten it with beef broth (because my skinks like the scent of beef) and leave a tray of food in the tank for no more than 24 hours.

My skinks love it and it makes a wonderful addition to the diet of my Pink Tongue Skinks.
